Bridgewater College

Bridgewater College honored nine students for their outstanding achievements as part of the campus community during the annual College Awards ceremony on April 20, 2024. 

Katelin Carter received the Philomathes Society Love of Learning Scholarship. The scholarship recognizes Carter for demonstrating intellectual curiosity through an individual project while at BC.  

Haleigh Deem received the Philomathes Society Community Engagement Gift and the Philomathes Society Graduate School Scholarship. The awards recognized Deem for using her academic talents to support a nonprofit community organization and planning to enter graduate school immediately after graduation, respectively. 

Jasmine Jones received the Alumni Association Citizenship Award for exemplifying good citizenship and positively contributing to class, extracurricular activities and the College community. 

Elena Larcombe received the Dr. Jacob S. Huffman Outstanding Student Leadership Award, which is annually presented to one senior to support them as they take their next steps. The award is named for Dr. Jacob S. Huffman ’33, who was known as an extraordinary representative of servant leadership and humility. 

Logan Mae Lotts received the Carlyle Whitelow Award. Given by the town of Bridgewater and the Bridgewater Rotary Club and named for Carlyle Whitelow, a BC alumnus in the class of 1959, the award recognized Lotts for demonstrating a commitment to serve others while exemplifying Whitelow’s kindness and generosity of spirit. 

Elizabeth “Lizzie” Mumbert received the Merlin and Dorothy Faw Garber Award for Christian Service. The award is named for Dr. Merlin Garber and his wife, Dorothy, both of whom were BC alumni and pastors in the Church of the Brethren.  

Dy’kierrya Whiting received the John Painter and Vashon “J.J.” Jefferson Award for exemplifying the character traits of Campus Police Officer John Painter and Campus Safety Officer Vashon “J.J.” Jefferson. Painter and Jefferson are remembered as two members of the BC family who cared deeply for the community. They took their duty to serve and protect campus seriously and did so while sharing their gifts of laughter and warmth every day. 

Grace Williams received the Melissa D. Jett Community Service Award for demonstrating consistent and exemplary leadership in community service. The award honors the memory of Melissa D. Jett ’99. 

Katelyn Yoder received the James O. and Sylvia Kline Bowman Peace and Justice Award. The award recognized Yoder for embodying the Kline Bowman Institute’s mission “to promote the building of peace in communities ranging from the local to the global” through significant on- or off-campus service.
